Zhu Zhenghao

Student

I’m Zhenghao Zhu, a senior digital media art student at Xiamen University.

In this last year before graduation, I’m finishing my courses while slowly exploring what kind of creative practice feels right for me.

For me, digital media art is a way of mixing many things together: moving image, still image, sound, and simple spatial or installation experiments. Rather than chasing very clear functional goals, I care more about whether these works can hold a certain atmosphere or the feeling of a moment — the light on a road, an unintentional expression, or a scene where I pause during a trip.

I take a lot of photos, and I really enjoy films and wandering / traveling. Photography has given me a habit: before pressing the shutter, I try to look at the world a little longer. Films make me more sensitive to rhythm, narrative, and changes in emotion, while traveling lets me place these feelings in different places and compare them. Many of my projects start from these very personal and fragmented observations, and are then slowly shaped into images, videos, or small experiments.

This website simply gathers these works-in-progress in one place: some are course projects, others are more personal explorations. Some are not very mature yet, and some may change or be replaced in the future, but together they record how, while studying digital media art, I use the camera and the screen to understand the world — and also to understand myself.

If you have any thoughts about these works, or just want to talk about photography, films, or travel, you’re very welcome to write to me.
